Birmingham, Ala., June 6, 2005 - Golden & Associates Construction is putting the final touches on the Jefferson County Personnel Board expansion at the 2121 Building in downtown Birmingham. Over the past nine months, Golden & Associates renovated 56,906 square feet spanning over four floors of the 17 story building and currently renovating the building's streetscape on 22nd Street North and Eighth Avenue North. The $3.6 million project included: removing asbestos, installing new walls and ceilings, extensive renovations to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and installing new cabinetry. Updates to enhance the building's aesthetics included: the aluminum storefront on the first and second floors, imported granite countertops and flooring and decorative stainless steel interior walls and railings.

The streetscape project will be adding new sidewalks with brick and granite pavers. New landscaping will also be added to enhance the beauty of Birmingham's downtown district. The streetscape project is slated to be complete in August 2005.

The interior renovation was completed while most of the building's 17 floors were occupied. Several of these floors include FBI offices and other organizations with security concerns. Given these conditions, extensive planning and coordination was required to complete the work and maintain a safe environment for the building's occupants. Project Manager Marcial Mendez adds, "Director Billy Morace and Deputy Director Jeff Smith of Jefferson County General Services worked with Golden & Associates Construction to resolve all of the unexpected issues that are typical on a renovation project of this size."

Last week, Golden & Associates Construction was awarded the security upgrades bid for Jefferson County Personnel Board.
