FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Birmingham, Ala., January 25, 2006 - Earlier this month, Golden & Associates Construction, LLC was awarded the contract for the University of Alabama’s Bibb Graves Hall renovation project. The $6.3 million project is slated to begin February 1 and be completed by November 24, 2006. The 65,000 sq. ft. renovation will begin with abatement and demolition of interior walls, ceilings, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. New fire protection, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems will then be added. After the systems are in place, new floors, drywall, and ceilings will be installed. Seating in the auditorium will be replaced to finish the interior portion of the project. For the exterior of the building, Golden & Associates will remove and replace the building’s windows and main entrance storefront, as well as perform masonry restoration and cleaning. To top off the project, the three-story building’s rubber membrane roof will be replaced.
Golden & Associates’ Ryan Ferris will be the project manager, and Marty Wagnon will be the superintendent. Mark McWilliams is the architect for Birchfield Penuel and Associates.
This will be Golden & Associates Construction’s first project in Tuscaloosa. Golden & Associates’ founder, Geoff Golden, states “This is an exciting project for our team. Our historical renovation experience gives us the knowledge and skills needed to preserve this majestic building’s character while updating it with today’s construction technology. We are looking forward to working with the University of Alabama and establishing a presence in the Tuscaloosa construction market.”
History of Bibb Graves Hall
Dedicated in 1929, the 77 year-old building was named after former Alabama Governor Bibb Graves. The building was originally constructed for the University’s College of Education. Today the building houses classrooms, science and computer laboratories, and faculty offices. Graves Hall is located on the corner of University Boulevard and Colonial Drive on the University’s campus. This will be the building’s first full renovation.
