Jefferson County Personnel Board Renovation
The Jefferson County Personnel Board renovation project consisted of the renovation of 4 floors at the 2121 Building in downtown Birmingham. The scope of work for this project consisted of the following: demolition of existing interiors including asbestos abatement, installation of below-grade waterproofing, new sheetrock walls and ceilings, lay-in acoustical ceilings, custom aluminum storefront on the first and second floors, new millwork cabinets, granite flooring / base / counter tops that was imported from China, carpet, operable partition, decorative stainless steel railings and walls, new EPDM roofing over building entrance canopy, traffic topping in parking deck adjacent to building, and extensive renovations of the building's MEP systems.
This project was completed while the owner occupied most of the building's 17 floors. Several of these floors included offices for the FBI and other organizations with security concerns. Given these conditions, extensive planning and coordination was required to complete the work and maintain a safe environment for the building's occupants.
The project was completed on schedule despite the addition of many change orders totaling close to 10% of the original contract value.
