BioCryst Chemistry & Corporate Offices

BioCryst focuses on the development of pharmaceuticals for the treatment of infectious, inflammatory, and cardiovascular diseases and disorders. They have experienced tremendous growth in the last two years through a strategic alliance with Johnson & Johnson and have entrusted Golden & Associates to deliver additional chemistry labs, administrative offices and a clean room to facilitate this growth.

An organized and well thought out game plan was essential to create this newly renovated research area and corporate headquarters within an up and running facility. The increased mechanical and electrical demands of the research space required an additional 480-volt service and BioCryst also had to more than double the capacity of their UPS system. An individual loop was added for DI water, nitrogen and compressed air to all existing chemistry labs as well as the new ones. Scientists were included in developing the shut down protocol, which had to be performed with 100% proficiency to avoid destroying valuable research data.

Chemistry labs were designed around the sophisticated casework, which included epoxy resin tops, bench fume hoods, acid waste piping and glass wash equipment. The HVAC system was expanded to handle the increased outside air requirements, exhaust and HEPA filtering requirements for this phase and for future expansion plans.
