Southern Lime Administrative Building
Southern Lime was in need for a new administrative facility as their modular offices were beginning to give way to time. After the project was awarded to Golden & Associates, further negotiations and value engineering took place with the owners and architect to ensure the project would be within Lafarge’s budget. Throughout the project, Golden & Associates’ project management team worked extensively with the subcontractors to ensure the project stayed on schedule and within budget.
Golden & Associates began the project with their main focus on the demanding schedule that was required in order for the owner to achieve their move-in date. Construction began in mid-December, with the major challenge being the weather and trying to dry-in the building before the spring rainy season began. The two-story, structural steel frame building was erected and dried-in within two months of starting the project.
The administrative facility is a two-story, 10,000 sq. ft. building, with a shot-blast block façade with brick soldier courses. The building is topped with a mechanically seamed metal panel roof which rests upon metal trusses.
Much of the first floor will be used as the laboratory facility to test the lime mined in the quarry. The laboratory is complete with laboratory furniture, and specialized mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment. The equipment includes fume hoods, acid waste piping, trench drains, and electrical wiring for x-ray machinery and bomb calorimeters.
The remainder of the building contains the administrative and dispatch offices for the plant.
