Southside Baptist
Southside Baptist Church has been serving the Birmingham community for almost 120 years. Throughout the years, the Church has added several buildings to its campus; all built with different architectural styles and materials. The Church needed handicap accessibility to every floor, but did not want the addition to look like another addition. To accomplish this, Golden & Associates installed an elevator tower at the corner of the sanctuary and ministries center. The addition provided full access to both buildings, while its exterior design blended the two different architectural styles of the buildings.
On the interior, Golden & Associates renovated 19,000 sq. ft. of space to alleviate what was considered a "worn-out" feel. It had been forty years since the building's last major renovation project. Many of the bathroom facilities were barely functional, and the common areas were unattractive. The renovation included select interior demolition and new paint, flooring, ceilings, and millwork. An operable wall partition was added to the banquet hall. Lighting was replaced and updated, and an automatic fire sprinkler system was installed in the renovated areas along with installation of a fire alarm system in the majority of the building.
Because of the Church's 15 ministries and three congregations that use the facility daily, this project required work to take place in a live environment. Golden's project team ensured all of the construction areas were safe and fully accessible at the end of each work day. The team maintained a clean and presentable jobsite every day, and provided extra clean up efforts before the Wednesday and Sunday services.
