Spain Park High School Athletic Facilities
Rapid population growth in the City of Hoover, Alabama led to the Hoover City Schools need to expand their athletic facilities at Spain Park High. The expansion project includes the new 14,400 sq.ft. Multipurpose Building, a 12,800 sq. ft. addition to the existing school building, alterations to the existing locker rooms and training facilities and a new 2,600 sq.ft. storage building.
The Multipurpose Building will be utilized by several of Spain Park's athletic teams. The building will house separate locker rooms for track, softball and baseball, coaches' offices and indoor batting facilities. The new addition to the existing school will house a new weight room, girls’ basketball, volleyball, and soccer locker rooms and additional coaches' offices.
The most challenging phase of the project was the Multipurpose Building. The original duration for construction of this facility was 5.5 months, the project team planned to complete this building by September 2005 to have it ready for the first football game. Several unforeseen site conditions and existing utilities made the tight schedule for the Multipurpose Building even more challenging. Golden & Associates worked with the architect and engineers daily to address and overcome these conditions and minimize the impact to the project schedule.
The contract completion time for the overall project was 420 calendar days. Golden & Associates completed the project in 268 days.
