Shelby County High School
In accepting the challenge to perform work for the Shelby County High School, Golden & Associates Construction was charged with completing additions and renovations that impacted virtually every area of their sprawling 5-acre campus. The work was divided into multiple phases, which included a 7,800 sq. ft. classroom addition, a 6,800 sq. ft. library expansion, a 5,400 sq. ft. science wing, a 2,000 sq. ft. gym balcony addition and totally redesigned administrative office and reception area. The project began just prior to summer break, and the first order of business was to totally upgrade the finishes in the existing classrooms, including enhanced lighting, ceilings, new AC units, new lockers and a central clock and intercom system. Weekly meetings were held with the architect and superintendent of schools to ensure that every available dollar was spent wisely to bring the existing facility up to current standards. Meanwhile, demolition and construction to tie in the other areas continued even as the 500 students returned to classes in the Fall. Coordination with the school principal and faculty was the key to maintaining a safe environment for both the workers and students.
