The new $14 million Hyatt Place hotel near UAB reaches a milestone today. The six-story, 105,000 square foot hotel will have its "topping out," a state in the construction process where the framework of the building is considered complete.

Golden & Associates Construction LLC is building the hotel at the former Tom Williams Cadillac site at 2024 Fourth Avenue South.

Once complete, the hotel - a new prototype design for Hyatt Place - will have 150 rooms, meeting rooms, lobby, bar and café, sunroom, indoor pool, fitness center and a guest laundry facility.

Corporate Realty Development and Southeastern Property Development are the developers.

Construction began in November 2007 and is scheduled to be complete in February 2009.
